O Come, All Ye Faithful

For Chorus and Piano

O Come, All Ye Faithful was commissioned by the Serenata Singers (Scarborough, Ontario) in September 2021. I was approached by my friend and colleague Jonathan Wong to write an original choral setting for the singers, and with glee I chose O Come, All Ye Faithful, one of my favourite Christmas tunes.

Despite its being a simple tune, the carol offers tremendous depth for harmonic exploration. I tried to stay true to my warm childhood memories of singing carols such as this in church on Christmas Eve, while still venturing into extended and sparkling harmonies.
