Winterscape (2022)

Winterscape reflects on the magnificence of a simple winter snowfall. Beginning with Snowfall, listeners are taken through a still scene and the first of many sparkling snowflakes drifting down from above. Striations is meant to emulate the swirling, austere shapes snow makes after it comes to rest—a fresh morning snowfall in the Rockies comes to mind. Though other movements contain more significant and diverse percussion writing, Striation’s simple balance of vibraphone and harp reflects the more delicate stillness present in the immediate aftermath of snowfall. Finally, Snowmelt is the ethereal, gradual, and indifferent melt of the previously formed stillness—though melancholic, hints of innocence and longing dwell around the edges.

·         Percussion II:                           Marimba (5-octave), Set of Bongos, Conga, Kick Drum

·         Percussion III:                          Glockenspiel, Crotales (2 octaves), Tuned Gongs and/ or Almglocken (G3, C4, D4, E4, G4)

·         Harp

·         Antiphonal Percussion:            Tuned Crystal Glasses (C4/ G4 - minimum 4 sets), Wind Chimes or Tuned Chimes, Bird Calls
